Approximately 60% of patients with c-LQTS will manifest diagnostic QT prolongation on the electrocardiogram (QTc >470 ms in males and 480 ms in females). 17–20Ĭhildren, adolescents, and young adults presenting with a history of abrupt syncope during exertion or auditory stimulation (e.g., from doorbells or alarm clocks), epilepsy, or family history of sudden death should raise suspicion for c-LQTS and should have a preoperative evaluation including an electrocardiogram. In addition, spontaneous germline mutations also occur. This affects approximately one in 1 million persons. Rarely, individuals can have autosomal recessive LQTS, which includes marked QT prolongation and deafness ( i.e. , Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome). The general inheritance pattern for c-LQTS is autosomal dominant. 15,16A family history of sensorineural hearing loss is extremely uncommon for the vast majority of c-LQTS. 14The frequency of these attacks varies from once or twice in a lifetime to once to twice per week. A family history of sudden death may be present and approximately 5–10% of the time the sentinel event for c-LQTS involves sudden death or aborted cardiac arrest. In addition, it is not uncommon for a patient with c-LQTS to have been misdiagnosed and treated for epilepsy. 12,13Patients may present at a young age with a history of abrupt, exertion-triggered or auditory-triggered syncope. The prevalence of c-LQTS in developed countries is estimated to be approximately 1 in 5,000 persons. The age at presentation of patients with c-LQTS varies from in utero to adulthood. Traditionally, LQTS is divided into congenital (c-LQTS) and acquired (a-LQTS) forms. Several medications, including anesthetic agents, may also interfere with cardiac repolarization, prolong the QT interval, and, sometimes, cause drug-induced TdP and sudden death. 2,3Symptomatic events may be triggered by physical activity and emotional stress. 1These events can present as syncope, seizures, or sudden cardiac death secondary to a characteristic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia known as torsades de pointes (TdP). Patients with LQTS often manifest prolongation of the QT interval and abnormal T wave morphology on 12-lead electrocardiogram secondary to delayed cellular repolarization and heterogeneity in dispersion of repolarization, which, when amplified by sympathetic activity, can lead to early after-depolarization, further dispersion of repolarization, and the formation of reentry circuits. In both instances the perturbed ion channels impair ventricular repolarization. ‘5 A Day’ EP drops March 12th via Time Is Now.LONG QT syndrome (LQTS) is a malfunction of cardiac ion channels resulting from mutations involving genes encoding critical ion channels of the heart (congenital LQTS) or caused by metabolic abnormalities or drugs (acquired LQTS). This headsy release makes your feet want to move in the way only garage can, bringing out some of the best that the UK sound has to offer. The record closes with ‘Hardly Keep it Inside’ icy synth and contorted trancey diva vocals make this track feel somehow larger than the others - you could imagine it going off in a cavernous club on a mountainous soundsystem, a swirling bassy number that sucks you in.

Cooper and Reed show their ruder side on the frenetic, brass infused ‘Look Good’ and the deeper, Niche-style wobbling bassline on ‘Chopper’. Some spaced out keys float over the 2-step rhythm before hitting a sidewinding bassline and the pace picks up in ‘Keep On Lovin’ Me’ - a classic speed garage sound you can’t help but move to. Studded with bangers, the EP kicks off surprisingly gently with ‘Be Real’.
#Keep it on the qt full
For Time Is Now, the duo have put together five tracks of dynamic, cheeky garage that takes influence from the full breadth of the genre. Cooper and Darryl Reid have been repping the Midlands’ oft-forgotten 2-step and bassline scene since being picked up by Riz La Teef’s South London Press in 2019 since dropping two EPs on Warehouse Rave and getting picked up for a remix by Conducta’s award-winning Kiwi Rekords. It was surely a matter of time before Leicester natives, darlings of the UKG revival Y U QT graced Time Is Now with a release.
